Important Dates & Deadlines:

Next available neurology residency position (PGY-2) is: July 1, 2009

PGY-2 Positions in Neurology:

All PGY-2 positions are offered through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants must register with the NRMP between August 15 and November 30, 2007 (late registrations are accepted until February 27, 2008 with a $50.00 late registration fee). Applications for PGY-2 positions in 2009 will be accepted from September 1st until January 15th. Applicants will apply for PGY-1 training in Internal Medicine through the same matching process. We will review all applications and invite the most promising applicants to interview. We will schedule interviews for a PGY-1 position in Medicine at UF at the same time as the Neurology interview. Interviews will be conducted from October 1st through January 31st. Rank order lists must be submitted to the NRMP by February 27, 2008. Results of the Match become available March 20, 2008.

Interviews

After reviewing applications, we choose a limited number for interview. Interviews will be conducted between October 1 and December 21, 2007. The interview period can be extended until January 31, 2008; but if you are offered an interview, please try to arrange an earlier date.

Important Information:

Please visit the NRMP and ERAS website for complete information about application, schedules, and regulations. You must honor the term's of the NRMP's Match Participation Agreement, which includes the provision that the results of the match are binding upon the applicant and the neurology program. Please do not participate in the match unless you are prepared to honor your commitment to any of the residency programs that you list on your rank order form. All violations of contract will be reported to the NRMP, which will investigate and take appropriate action.

Qualifications

Medical School Training: Applicants must have an M.D. or D.O. degree or be in their senior year of medical school. Foreign medical graduates must comply with all requirements of the Accreditation Committee for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and must obtain certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

The PGY-1 year: All residents must spend their PGY-1 year in an ACGME-accredited program in Internal Medicine or in a Transitional Residency Program with at least 8 months of training on an adult acute medicine in-patient service. Six months of internal medicine, together with two months in pediatrics and/or emergency medicine is accepted as an alternative. All programs must fulfill the requirements for PGY-1 training required by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. If you have any questions about whether a PGY-1 program you are interested in fulfills these requirements, you should inquire of the Board.

Technical Standards for Residency: Candidates for Neurology Residency must have abilities and skills in the areas of observation, communication, motor, intellectual, and behavioral and social attitudes, as outlined in the technical requirements for residency.
