Personal Info
Dr. Valenstein completed his Residency in Neurology under Dr. Norman Geschwind at the Boston City Hospital in 1971. After military service, he was an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Darmouth for one year, and moved to the University of Florida in 1974. His research interests have been in behavioral neurology. He worked with a primate model of neglect in collaboration with Dr. Kenneth M. Heilman and Dr. Robert T. Watson. He also has interests in clinical behavioral neurology, and has published papers on unilateral neglect and memory.

Dr. Valenstein was the principal electromyographer at University of Florida from 1974 to 1992, and has a clinical interest in neuromuscular disorders and multiple sclerosis.

He was appointed Chair of the Department of Neurology in January 2002. He is the Director of the Neurology Residency Program.
